A York engineering company has won two national awards in a fortnight for a unique new product that improves safety and reduces costs for railway infrastructure owners.
Omnicom Engineering’s OmniVision system won the Engineering and Safety category at the annual Railway Industry Innovation Awards and the Innovation category of the annual Network Rail Partnership Awards, seeing off competition from some of the rail industry’s leading players, as well as earning a commendation in the safety category.
OmniVision combines high-resolution cameras and pattern recognition software to automate the detection of track defects to improve both the quality and safety of the process while saving time and money. It also means that tracks do not have to be closed whilst they are being inspected.
Stirling Kimkeran, chief executive of Omnicom, said: “I am delighted that yet again the rail industry has recognised the innovative products that our company produces, which is due to the hard work of our great team of staff.”
