Scarborough Members Invited to LEP Meeting


Members of the Chamber in Scarborough and the surrounding areas are invited to attend a meeting to discuss the future of the Local Enterprise Partnership. The aim of this meeting is to gather views from local businesses about what Scarborough needs to further develop its economy as well as what they consider to be the priorities for the LEP.

York St John Offers new Business Support


York St John University Business School is offering new support to business in a partnership with advice service The Alternative Board.

The business school is to hold a series of "board meetings" where people running companies can confidentially discuss the issues they are facing with others in similar circumstances.

It is inviting 11 SME companies from across Yorkshire to take part in the programme which starts next month and will be led by Ed Reid from TAB.

Tailor-Made Cutting Proteins for DNA Engineering

We all know the standard restriction enzymes that have been used for years to specifically cut sequences of double-stranded DNA but now there's a new contender on the block. A team of researchers at Iowa State University have developed a hybrid protein that can target a specific sequence of DNA and then cut the double strand.

Use a Common Cold Virus to Target and Disrupt Cancer Cell?

Researchers from the Salk Institute have published a paper describing findings into how adenovirus controls crucial cell death mechanisms that are also knocked out in cancer cells. The research has been published in the 26th August edition of Nature here.

Artists and makers who live or work within a ten-mile radius of York are invited to apply for the 10th anniversary York Open Studios taking place over two weekends:  April 1,2&3 and 8,9&10 2011.
